Accounting is the language of business. This class will prepare students who are thinking of pursuing a business career in college. This course will provide complete coverage of the three types of business--proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. Each type of business is presented in a complete accounting cycle covering analyzing transactions, journalizing, posting, petty cash, financial statements, and adjusting and closing entries. Accounting concepts are developed as students learn and understand the terminology used in accounting and business. Students will be using Automated Accounting and Excel software in this class.

This course provides an in-depth study of accounting methods for a sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. The accounting methods of budgeting, managerial decision-making, and formal financial statement analysis are introduced to the students. In addition, students are required to complete a computerized simulation set using Automated Accounting and Excel software.

This course fulfills the computer literacy requirement for all freshmen. Freshmen may elect to take this course during their freshman year, sophomore year or during summer school. Students learn to key alphabetic information, alpha/numeric information and use the keypad. Emphasis is placed on correct technique, accuracy and speed. The basics of Windows XP are discussed with emphasis placed on vocabulary development. Students acquire skills and knowledge in the use of Word 2003, Excel 2003 and Power Point 2003.

This course will introduce the student to the design concepts and the various languages and tools used for web page construction and design. The students will use design techniques, artwork, photos, rollover images, animations, background images, sounds and video to create dynamic and interactive web sites. Students will learn HTML (the universal language of the Web) and advanced CSS formatting techniques using Adobe Dreamweaver and Adobe Flash. The students will also render pictures for use on their pages using Adobe Photoshop. Students will be exposed to the use of digital cameras, scanners, animation software and sound files to enhance their sites.

The basics of Windows XP are discussed with emphasis placed on vocabulary development. Students acquire skills and knowledge in the use of Word 2003, Excel 2003, PowerPoint 2003, Publisher, internet searching and an Integration Project.
* Students must pass a placement test in order for admission to this class. Students will be expected to key 30 w.p.m. and have a basic knowledge and understanding of Word 2003. (This placement test will consist of using Office 2003 until Office 2007 or later version is placed on the network.)

Adobe In Design CS3 is desktop publishing software. Students learn the Adobe Design Premium CS3 software program and will also learn basics of Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS3 as it relates to print production. Throughout the course, students create print media such as newsletters, newspapers, posters, brochures, programs and other print media.

This course provides an excellent background for students pursuing a Business major in college. It is the study of the structures and practices of business organizations operating under our free enterprise economy. Students will examine the environment of small business ownership, the procedures and skills necessary to manage and open a small business, and the policies and practices of a successful business operation. Students will use computer applications and the Internet to explore business trends in management.

This course encompasses the interconnectedness of the world’s global economies and their relationship to the U.S. This course dissects the U.S. Government’s policies in context with its international trading partners and provides insight into how this delicate balance is maintained and managed. This course includes stong links to the history, geography, politics and policies, cultures, natural resources, labor forces, management, marketing, finance, laws, and risks affecting the world’s economy today. It incorporates topics from marketing, finance, business math, business law, entrepreneurship and management courses and combines them into one cohesive course. International business is one of the most important and pertinent topics affecting the global economy we live in and is one of the most prevalent topics currently taught in college and university business schools.
