Physical Education Classes
Each student is required to take two semesters of physical education. The grade for these classes will be averaged into the GPA. Physical education can be taken at any time within the four years of high school, however, students many not repeat the same semester.

SEMESTER TWO course has a unit of fitness that emphasizes strength training with machines, free weights, and the use of the student’s body weight. Course units include a variety of movement activities as well as team sports. The emphasis is on active participation now and as a future lifetime pursuit. In the health unit, students will learn the most current information on selected health issues.
- Students may not repeat the same semester.
- Students may not take the Summer session twice.
HEALTH #830

CREDIT: .5 ONE SEMESTER
Health is a semester course that focuses on personal health, with emphasis on health related topics. Health presents a broad range of topics: CPR, First Aid, Safety Education, drug, alcohol and tobacco use and abuse, human sexuality, mental health and stress, nutrition, healthy relationships and preventing and control of diseases.
PHYSICAL FITNESS #831
LEVEL: 9-10-11-12
CREDIT: .5 ONE SEMESTER
This is a semester course intended for students and athletes who are interested in improving their overall fitness level. The student will have a Physical Fitness Assessment (pre and post). The student will develop a personal fitness program. This course deals with target heart rate training, cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, flexibility, aerobics,plyometrics, jump rope, circuit training and core. Three days a week will be strength training and two days a week will be aerobics, flexiblity and core. Heart rate monitor is required. This is a semester of conditioning and daily running. *If you are lifting with an outside source/team/personal trainer, you are still required to do daily conditioning in class.
INTRODUCTION TO ATHLETIC TRAINING #864

FEE: $400.00
This laboratory physical education course is offered to students who have an interest in a health care career with emphasis on the sports medicine/physical therapy field. The course provides understanding of the pathological anatomy, techniques in evaluating, and modalities of treating sports-related injuries. Lab requirements include participation in the Carmel Sports Trainers Program. Participation is limited to twenty students. Instructors include Condell Medical Center certified athletic trainers and a board certified emergency room physician. This is an elective physical education course that does not fulfill the physical education graduation requirement.
