Newer activities such as oil spill clean-up, coding, and drive-a-competition robot also challenged young ladies who are interested in scientific concepts like chemistry, biology, physics, coding, engineering and design, and math.
Carmel Catholic’s FEM in STEM group was founded by the first girls-only Introduction to Engineering class that was offered. At the time, these students felt that young girls needed to be empowered as they were empowered. Carmel FEM in STEM is completely student-organized and run. Says Carmel engineering and computer science teacher Erin Major: “To have these girls be so passionate to fulfill a need that our community obviously is looking for is absolutely amazing.”
