First to test the judges on Saturday, the Carmel Catholic dancers surpassed their preliminary mark by 3.5 points when they notched an 89.44, following an evening of careful planning and practice in the Shirk Center of nearby Illinois Wesleyan University.
The team's final score was its best of the postseason, which featured an 88.07 to win the IHSA Class 1A Sectional Championship, hosted by Jacobs High School, and was .43 higher than 4th-place finisher, and East Suburban Catholic Conference rival, Joliet Catholic Academy.
Upon returning to Mundelein, the 3rd-Place winners were greeted by a police escort, which led the State Finalists back to Carmel Catholic for the final time this season. To close out the historic day, the Corsairs danced together one last time in the lobby of the Hesse Center, where their family and friends were waiting to celebrate the team's success amid a shower of confetti.
On Monday, Dance Team members will present their hard-earned hardware to the Carmel Catholic community when they parade the halls following morning announcements. Led by coaches Amelia Faulstick, Kacey Valentine O'Keeffe, and Lexie Van Skyock, the Competitive Dance program will be supported by the Corsairs Marching Band, as well as students and staff members lining the hallways to catch a glimpse of greatness:
